Lydney took another huge step to Hellenic Premier safety on Tuesday night with a first-ever win against a good Corsham side.
Coming off the back of a 2-0 win at Malmesbury at the weekend, Lydney put in another gritty performance to collect all three points.
With striker Mike Symonds unavailable, Lee Smith started up top and Ben Dodd replaced Kyle Gibbs in midfield.
Sean McKeon back after injury, made the bench, along side Lucas Vaughan, Gibbs, Declan Morley-Lyne, and Billy Guest.
It was the visitors who were on top from the off.
Fortunately for Lydney they left their shooting boots at home, managing to miss the target on several occasions.
Ross Staley hammered over the bar inside five minutes before Archie Milne did the same with his close range effort.
The same player managed to find the target a minute later but Phillips tipped the shot over the bar.
The speedy wide man Devanty McInerney then cut inside his marker only to blast a shot way over the top.
After surviving the salvo, Lydney did manage a few forays up field, but they too failed to test Smith in the visitors’ goal.
Full-back Mikkiel Graham weaved past three men before narrowly shooting wide.
Then Archie Myatt wasted a great chance by firing over the top with Brett James waiting in the area for a pass.
How the half finished goalless remains a mystery.
Once again in the second period it was Corsham on the front foot.
Josh Roddy brought the best out of Olly Phillips with a stinging drive.
The Lydney keeper had an inspired second half making several saves and blocks to keep the score level.
Assistant manager Adam Dix felt it was time for a change on the hour mark, with James and Dodd making way for Gibbs and Vaughan.
The plan worked as Lydney began to enjoy more possession in the Corsham half.
Skipper Jordi Sheen saw a thumping shot saved by Smith, before, at the other end, McInerney watched his effort come back off the post with Phillips beaten for once.
Lydney boss Lee Smith then sat his marker on the floor before slotting past Smith only to also see his effort hit the post.
A minute later he made amends – a pass over the top was chased down by Smith who reached the ball seconds before the Corsham keeper and rolled it into an empty net.
That was the striker's final contribution and he was replaced by Morley-Lyne.
Corsham failed to give up and with time ticking on they thought they had leveleld only for Phillips to pull off the save of the night when he instinctively pushed the ball over the bar from point blank range.
The stop provided Lydney with the urge to push again.
A superb touch from Graham saw his pass send Myatt racing down the right flank.
The rapid winger clipped a ball into Morley-Lyne whose first time effort was blocked by Smith only for him to tap home at the second attempt.
Guest and McKeon came on for Myatt and Johnson to ensure Lydney held on for a precious three points.
On Saturday, Lydney welcome Cirencester Town who are one place above them in the table.
