The Seniors Winter Singles Knock Out, has concluded at Forest Hills, with Mike Steward defeating John Humphries 2 & 1, in a keenly contested final, writes Geoff Norris.
The Seniors’ Individual Stableford on Thursday morning, attracted 54 entrants and Roger Hall was the winner of Division One, with a four under par 40 points. Ken Ellway was second with 37, and Pat Simcoe third.
Division Two was won by Terry Hook, with a best of the day 42. John Humphries continued his strong vein of form, with a second placed 38. Pete Walters was third.
Andy Wright won Division Three on countback from Keith Bell with 37. Mark Hyde was third.
There were three claims made against the twos kitty: Richard Keeble and Geoff Norris on the eighth, and Terry Hook on the 17th.
On Friday, the club held their final, very popular Winter Series event, won by local member Tom Knight with a commendable 40 points.
Olwen Simpson, the winner of the first event held in November, was second.
Countback was required to determine the minor places, as 37 points, were shared by Tony Laws, Jacob Turner, and James Wrench from Charminster Golf Club.
Despite the golf and rugby later in the morning, the Saturday Stableford attracted a sizeable field.
The winner of Division One was Chris Drew with 37. Andrew Ward was second, and Andy Shenton third.
Jonathan Huggins carded the best of the day score of 41 to win Division Two, with Alastair Timms second, and Ashley Drew third.
Tim Preece made the only claim on the twos kitty.
Saturday afternoon, saw the annual golfing challenge between England and Wales in a Six Nations curtain raiser.
The English contingent sat on a five-two advantage with four matches still out on the course but the Welsh eventually won 6-5.
