LYDNEY Town have confirmed the appointment of Lee Smith and Adam Dix as joint First Team managers, marking the beginning of a new era for the club.
The duo, who led Tredworth Tigers for the past seven years, bring a wealth of experience to Lydney as they look to turn around the club’s fortunes in the Hellenic Premier Division.
The new management team arrives at Lydney following the departure of Danny Elliott. Their appointment comes at a crucial moment, with the club currently struggling in 19th place.
Smith and Dix have an impressive track record, guiding Tredworth from the Stroud League to a 3rd place finish in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One and a runner-up spot in the Reg Davis Cup last season.
Director of Football Neil Hook, who led the recruitment process alongside Peter Macklin, expressed his excitement about the appointments: "We are delighted to have Lee and Adam join us. From our first meeting, it was clear their passion and knowledge of the game were qualities we were looking for. We were keen to secure their services, and they have the support of the whole club. I am confident they will do very well for us."
Smith’s impressive playing career, which includes over 300 appearances for Gloucester City and stints at Forest Green Rovers, Weston-super-Mare, Cirencester Town, and other non-league sides, adds to his credentials.
Speaking to Severn Sport, he admitted the decision to leave Tredworth was difficult but recognised the opportunity at Lydney as too good to pass up: "It was a massively hard decision… but the opportunity to step up to the Hellenic Premier was too good to turn down."
Smith also highlighted the strong working relationship between himself, Dix, and their assistant Warren Evans, who will be part of the backroom staff at Lydney: "Loyalty and respect are key. We trust that we can work together at all levels."
Looking ahead, the new managers are focused on guiding Lydney out of the relegation zone. Smith reflected on the challenges ahead: "We want to stay up. That’s the aim. It’s going to be a rollercoaster, but we’ll give it our best shot and hopefully do Lydney Town proud."
Their first test will come in a crucial away match against Cirencester Town, followed by a key home fixture against Brimscombe & Thrupp. With Smith and Dix at the helm, Lydney are hopeful for a brighter future.
The club shared its optimism for the new management team: "We are delighted to have them on board and are excited for the future."
