A NEW online resource aimed at helping parents and guardians keep children and young people safe in the digital world has been unveiled.
Gloucestershire County Council launched the new webpage which provides essential information about online harms and offers guidance on how to protect young users while they navigate the internet.
The resource brings together trusted links, providing access to local and national support networks focused on online safety, as well as wider health and wellbeing advice.
Recognising the broad range of impacts that digital spaces can have, the portal also emphasises the importance of understanding the risks associated with online activity.
Young Gloucestershire, a key partner in the development of the webpage, worked closely with the council to offer expert insights into the needs of young people.
The organisation, which helps young people thrive by developing their skills and providing support, has been integral to shaping the resources available to parents and guardians.
As part of its efforts to protect local young people, Gloucestershire County Council is also collaborating with Young Gloucestershire to expand youth worker support for those affected by online harm.
Tracy Clark, CEO of Young Gloucestershire, said: “The online space is a prominent area for young people offering opportunities to socialise, connect, and learn. However, it also presents a challenge for young people to be exploited, misinformed, and face negative impacts on mental health. We are pleased to have the opportunity to partner with GCC to raise awareness of the online challenges and provide support to young people who are being negatively impacted.”
The initiative highlights the council’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding young people across the county, where concerns around online safety remain a priority.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to make use of the resources available through the portal to ensure that their children can navigate the digital world safely and securely.
