A COMPANY that began life in Ross-on-Wye in 1984 is celebrating 40 years of manufacturing at an anniversary event and agri-conference.
Starting in a Ross-on-Wye farm building in 1984, where the Scudamore family initially designed Rollerscreens for their dairy operations, Galebreaker has grown into a significant enterprise.
Now headquartered in a 40,000 sq. ft facility at New Mills industrial estate in Ledbury, the company continues to innovate with products that enhance both human and animal environments, such as the Variable Ventilation System and Industrial Wind Shields.
Speaking at the event, owner and managing director, Jeremy Scudamore said: "Over the past 40 years, we’ve navigated challenges and seized opportunities that have propelled us forward as industry leaders.
“Our dedication to innovation and excellence remains unwavering, fuelled by our commitment to enhancing the environments where people and animals work and live,” he added.
Mr Scudamore explained that the company is pioneering the next generation of smart farm building control systems, operated via mobile apps.
“These are complemented by new consultancy services designed to enhance livestock welfare, protecting them from challenges such as heat stress, which in turn supports the economic and environmental sustainability of farm businesses.”
Galebreaker's expertise extends beyond agriculture into commercial and industrial spaces. They enhance workspaces through internal partitioning and provide solutions to safeguard equipment at power stations, food processing, recycling, and data centers from adverse conditions.
With an annual turnover of over £10M and more than 50 staff, Galebreaker exports to 30 markets worldwide, representing the best of local manufacturing on a global stage. The firm is shortlisted in the ‘excellence in manufacturing and engineering’ category at the 2024 Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce awards.
As part of its continued growth, Galebreaker has expanded its management team with several key appointments, with the addition of Scott Cullen as their new financial director, Rolly Whatton as engineering manager and David Stephens in systems development.
The company also welcomed Chloe Rodriguez as their animal health and welfare lead, bolstering their expertise and representing women in industry and homegrown talent.
