RUGBY in Newent is booming with the town's club winning two out of three of last weekend's Combination Cup finals.
Newent's second XV triumphed in Friday night's Minor Cup final, beating Berry Hill Wappers 20-9, while Newent's firsts saw off Cinderford Stags by 20-10 to win the Junior Cup final at Lydney RFC on Sunday.
Newent RFC secretary John Moore said: "There's a lot of interest in the club right now and we've got a lot of very good players.
"We didn't even have a second XV last year, but next season we're looking at running colts, under-14s and under-15s teams.
"For a club with only one pitch and no clubhouse I think we are definitely punching above our weight."
