VINEY Reserves won a hard fought Pope Cup final at Lydney Town FC on Good Friday to keep their dream of winning four trophies in the same season alive.
Viney beat plucky Ruspidge United 1-0 in front of a bumper crowd of 350-400.
It took a 79th minute own-goal from the unlucky Gary Morgan to give Viney their narrow win.
Viney manager Wayne Nyland said: "I was disappointed with our performance and I think some of the players had stage fright.
"Having said that, Ruspidge were a good side who battled hard and made it tough for us. I definitely think they will go up."
It's been an incredible year for Viney's second string.
Former army fitness instructor Nyland has blended a team of young talents like Matt Sriseuk and experienced older heads such as Richard Evans, Liam, Saunders and Simon James to fight battles on four trophy fronts. With West Dean Charities and Pope Cups already in the bag, the team is top of Division Three of the North Gloucestershire League and has a County Cup final to look forward to later this week.
Wayne said: "I don't think anyone has won the quad before.
"It's been a long season and I think some of the boys are tired, but we'll keep going.
"Because of all our cup runs we've probably played twice as many games as anyone else.
"I'd like to think a lot of our boys will be in the firsts next season.
"At the start of the season promotion was our aim, in order to cut the gap between the firsts and seconds."
