DIRECTOR of Rugby Andy Addis know his Newent side’s play-off hopes are out of their hands.
But he refuses to focus elsewhere ahead of a crunch South West One West clash this weekend.
Newent need to beat Teignmouth and hope second-placed Thornbury slip up at home to fifth side Bideford.
Despite a play-off spot being out of their hands, Newent have had a successful year and Addis believes a promising future lies ahead, with many players being called up for several counties’ Under-20s teams.
“We can’t rely on other people’s results,” Addis said.
“At the end of the day our boys will go out there and play the bes they can. Hopefully we’ll win and achieving a bonus point would be great.
“Thornbury will be playing Bideford and they are no mugs. They are a good side and it will be a tough encounter for all four sides this weekend.
“We’re building on our successes and trying to keep the consistency up. We have a lot of young talent coming through the ranks.
“Among our team we’ve got lads playing for Hampshire, Gloucestershire and Surrey Under-20s.
“It’s a testament to them how well they have done playing against fully grown men in the league. The future is bright; the future is green!
“We’ve beaten every side at least once and I’m proud of that. In terms of achieving a play-off spot, we just need to do our job and hope that other things fall into place.”
One of Newent’s biggest strengths is its supporters, with fans travelling as far as Cornwall to cheer on the Green Army.
“Our supporters are absolutely fantastic. You can’t fault them.
“I’m sure there will be a big crowd there on Saturday cheering us on. Their support really gives the team a boost.”
