LYDNEY head coach Jason Forster has left the club after overseeing just four games.
Forster joined the Severnsiders in October to replace the outgoing Rhys Oakley, having been ’highly recommended’ according to team manager Dave Emery.
But Forster has left having been in charge for four successive losses in the South West Premier.
“He’s a great coach and I’m sure he will coach at a high level but it was just not working for Lydney, ” Emery said.
“We spoke to a few people about him before and he came highly recommended but we moved quickly and maybe we should have waited.
“It’s difficult when you come in mid-season. We had a way that Rhys wanted use to play and Jason tried to change things that didn’t go down too well.
“He just had a different way of doing things. He’s a good guy and he put a lot of work in and a lot of preparation work but it was just not meant to be at this time.”
Chris Holder, who took over the job in the interim between Oakley and Forster, will step in again with help from Brett Scriven.
“It’ll be good to have the local lads get us through the season,” Emery added.
The Regentsholme club have also picked up a quintet of new players to help them turn around a disastrous start to the season.
With the disbanding of rugby league side Gloucestershire All Golds, four players have returned to union and have signed on at Lydney, who sit second from bottom in the South West Premier table and are level on points with basement side Hornets.
“They’re all ex-union players who went to the University of Gloucestershire and began playing rugby league there,” Emery said.
“We’ve also brought in David O’Hagan, who works at Worcester Warriors and has played in Scotland and in the British & Irish Cup.”
