LYDNEY Town endured a difficult afternoon as they were handed a 10-1 defeat by Slimbridge on Bank Holiday Monday. Despite showing early promise, Lydney struggled to keep pace with their dominant hosts.
The game started on a challenging note for Lydney, with former player Callum Dark giving Slimbridge the lead after just two minutes. Things quickly went from bad to worse, as Liam Harper doubled the Swans’ advantage by the 10-minute mark.
Lydney managed to pull one back in the 14th minute through Lewis Pinchard, who found the net to make it 2-1, offering a glimmer of hope. However, that hope was short-lived as Slimbridge regained control. Harper converted a penalty in the 38th minute to restore the two-goal cushion, and Dark added his second of the match just before half-time, sending Lydney into the break trailing 4-1.
The second half brought no relief for Lydney as Slimbridge continued to pile on the pressure. Ben Deakin scored within a minute of the restart, setting the tone for what would be a relentless period of play. Substitute Will Tainton made an immediate impact, assisting and then scoring to extend Slimbridge’s lead to 6-1 by the 69th minute.
Jack Smith, Will Hawes, and Tainton again found the net as the goals kept coming, with Slimbridge reaching double figures in the 89th minute. Hawes’ late strike capped off a dominant performance from the Swans, leaving Lydney reeling from a heavy 10-1 defeat.
