CINDERFORD eventually proved to be too strong for a bold Devonport Services side in a 10-try National League Two West encounter at Dockham Road
The home side were first to score with winger Elliott Southworth touching down in the corner inside four minutes but Luje McMahon’s conversion attempt was wide.
After enduring a lengthy defensive stint, Cinderford’s patience was rewarded with a McMahon penalty. after 19 minutes to make it 8-0.
The gap was widened within a minute after Cinderford’s Ben Carpenter pounced on a loose ball from the restart.
The ball was moved out wide for Sam Smith to score and with McMahon adding the conversion, the home side were 15-0 to the good.
Smith’s touchdown was the first of three in seven minutes with two of them going to Cinderford.
The visitors were quick to respond when Tom Davies intercepted a looping pass and ran it in from 40 meters out.
Richard Goldsby-West’s converion reduced the arrears to eight points but Cinderford reacted well as Hugo Murray’s strong line sliced through the Devonport defence with conviction to add another for the home side after 27 minutes.
Cinderford were now 22-7 but the Devon side, looking for their first win this season, went into the break within touching distance after two more unanswered tries.
First Mike Hunt scored an unconverted try and then captain Matt Gregory crossed the whitewash with virtually the last play of a half which saw a total of six five-pointers.
The conversion meant just two points separated the sides at half-time and the momentum appeared to be with the visitors.
However, the visitors hopes were dealt a blow when George Knowles scored a try from a driving maul with the half barely five minutes old.
McMahon slotted over another penalty with half an hour to go.
Hooker Taylor added to his tally with a try from another driving maul and Cinderford had the game by the scruff of the neck as the lead was extended to 18 points.
Despite going down to 14 men, Cinderford were still not finished with the tries as McMahon topped off an impressive afternoon, running in the Foresters’ final try which he converted with some three minutes to go.
It wasn’t the final score of the match as Davies scored on full-time to earn Devonport a consolation bonus point at the end of an entertaining game.

Flanker Dan Broady was named Cinderford’s man of the match and the award was presented by coach Jake Polledri.
On Saturday (October 12), Cinderford travel to Cheshire to take on Macclesfield.
Cinderford’s U-18 Girls had a good win against Bristol Pumas/Bath Girls emerging 27-0 winners.
The scoring was opened by Abi who kicked through to get the try after some good pressure.
Rhia then used her pace to claim a well-taken try followed by Alice who used her strength and speed to outpace the defence.
A number of strong drives then allowed Amy to pick up and score from close range.
The last try of the game came from Rhia who picked up the ball just inside her own half and beat two players for a fine solo try. Fi kicked one conversion.
