This former chapel for sale is in the centre of town and comes complete with an organ and pews.

The Chapel, in Lydney, dates back to 1833 and is Grade II listed, with the original building to the front and later additions at the back.

In 2010, the property was bought by the Baptist Union, but due to repairs and maintenance it was closed in early 2018.

The building has a slate roof with a hipped back, a three bay front with a heavy cornice on floral brackets.

Inside, there is a panelled gallery front and a rosette on the ceiling, while the chapel also retains the original organ that Herbert Howells learnt to play on - a composer whose music was played at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

The interior of the chapel comprises a reception hall leading through the main church hall, complete with pulpit.

Beyond this are the rooms that were added over the years, previously potentially for schooling and now being warden’s quarters, including a reception room, a utility room, a kitchen, a lounge, and an office, while above the church hall is gallery seating with pews.

In the early 2000s, the chapel was further modernised, with newly installed ladies’ and accessible toilets.

In 2022, under a new owner, works began to refurbish the building, and the chapel is now used for community events such as mother and baby groups, jewellery classes and celebration activities.

The property is being sold by Toombs & Toombs for a price of £145,000.

The agent described the property as “a newly refurbished chapel that is currently used to host workshops, training courses, functions and meetings.

“The property occupies a prominent position on Lydney high street with huge potential to convert to accommodate a residential or commercial development (perhaps to apartments or a mixture of retail/hot food/apartments) all subject to the necessary planning consents.”
