A HEARTWARMING community project in Newent is continuing to make a big difference to local lives, with weekly gatherings serving up more than just good food.
The Sharing Kitchen, based in the heart of the town, has been welcoming residents since November 2024.
Each week, up to 30 people come through the doors to enjoy freshly cooked meals, friendly conversation, and a chance to take part in social activities like quizzes and games.
The Kitchen is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who work hard to create a warm, welcoming space where people from all walks of life can come together.
With a strong emphasis on healthy eating and tackling isolation, the project has become a lifeline for many in the community.
As well as offering affordable home-cooked meals, The Sharing Kitchen provides a vital link to local support services.
Organisers regularly invite representatives from partner organisations to chat with attendees and offer advice on issues such as housing, health, finances, and wellbeing.
Last week’s session saw visits from Gloucestershire Constabulary, Forest Voluntary Action Forum, the Forest of Dean Climate Action Partnership, and the Armed Forces Support Network.
The event gave residents the chance to raise concerns, ask questions and access practical help in a relaxed and informal setting.
The project is also backed by Newent Town Council and Newent and District Rotary Club, with local support playing a crucial role in helping the group grow and thrive.
A special VE Day celebration is set to take place on Thursday, May 8, and work is already underway on a new in-house recipe book featuring some of the group’s most-loved dishes.
Organisers are keen to welcome more residents through the doors, whether they’re coming for a hot meal, a friendly chat, or to find out more about the support on offer.
