WHEN The Beatles famously graced the stage at Lydney Town Hall back in 1962, they were yet to even record their official debut single.
Drummer Ringo Starr had only been in the group for four weeks, and the worldwide ‘Beatlemania’ that followed was yet to manifest.
Four days later, they were at Abbey Road Studios in London recording ‘Love Me Do’ with legendary producer George Martin - and the rest, as they say, was history.
Now, to mark the 60th anniversary of the legendary concert, which took place on August 31, 1962, the town hall is hosting top tribute band The Mersey Beatles for a “hit-packed celebration of the greatest band of all time”.
Just like the real thing, The Mersey Beatles hail from Liverpool and were the resident Beatles tribute at the world-famous Cavern Club for more than a decade.
Since then the band – Mark Bloor (John), Steven Howard (Paul), Craig McGown (George) and Brian Ambrose (Ringo) – have toured the world many times over.
They have won “legions of fans” including John Lennon’s family and The British Beatles Fan Club, who rate them as “the best Beatles tribute band around”.
Steve said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been asked by Lydney Town Hall Trust to perform on the 60th anniversary of the very day The Beatles played in the town.
“It is really special for us to visit venues The Beatles themselves played, to stand where they stood and play those legendary songs.
“We played Lydney Town Hall back in 2018 and it was an incredible night, the audience was amazing so we cannot wait to Get Back to this wonderful and historic venue. It’s going to be a great night!”
Paul Trevatt, chair of the volunteer committee which runs Lydney Town Hall, said: “We are really excited to have the return of such talented band as The Mersey Beatles.
“We had such a great evening’s entertainment of Beatles songs from these Liverpool guys back in 2018 and eagerly await their return to Lydney for our very special 60th Beatles celebration.”
The band will take the audience on a “magical history tour” through all eras of The Beatles’ work.
