AYLBURTON Says No campaigners would like to thank all the residents, councillors and members of the wider public who contributed to the efforts that ensured a rejection of the planning application for an industrial-scale turbine on the edge of Aylburton.
If it had been allowed, the turbine would have been 116 feet higher than Nelson's Column and would have had an overbearing impact on the village. The turbine would have been a disaster for the unique landscape of the Severn Estuary and the local tourist economy whilst achieving nothing for the environment.
The district councillors, on the advice of officers, have been able to make a well-informed decision and are to be applauded for refusing this application. Hopefully the new legislation now being introduced by the government will help planners give priority to the views of people from local communities and more protection for our distinctive landscape.
Together with the Say No to Severn Turbines group our fight to prevent a proliferation of these huge wind turbines down this side of the Severn will continue.
