A 19-year-old woman was killed when the car she was travelling in smashed into a wall near the war memorial in Longhope on Friday night.

Leanne Davies, from Lydbrook, was a passenger in a car being driven by a 19-year-old man from Coleford. He remains in a serious condition in hospital after being airlifted to Frenchay.

Lakers School headteacher Alison Elliot described the accident as 'dreadful' and paid tribute to Leanne by saying: "She was an absolutely delightful, young woman.

"She was artistic and gentle and had a bright future ahead of her. It's incredibly upsetting and naturally our thoughts are with her family."

More than 30 bunches of flowers and messages have been left at the crash scene.
