AROUND 70 people were impressed and entertained at an afternoon tea and flower arranging demonstration organised by the Friends of Longhope Church (FOLC).
FOLC Chair Tina Coull said: “On a very wet Sunday afternoon people travelled miles to come and see Longhope’s ‘one and only’ Beryl Griffiths and three of her FOLC helpers at a afternoon of tea, flower arranging and chat afternoon run by the Friends of Longhope Church at the Latchen Rooms..
“It was a wonderful, relaxed afternoon, – Donna Bailey, a visitor commented that “ it was so good to share time with so many friends enjoying seeing so many floral creations and delicious refreshments.
“So many volunteers give their time so that our church at Longhope keeps on top of maintenance”, which was lovely to hear.”
“The audience enjoyed four flower arranging acts which then led onto a high class afternoon tea being served.
The flower arrangements were raffled off later that afternoon and many visitors didn’t go home empty anded.
“This wonderful event raised £600.000, which will go towards the next major FOLC “path repair’ project.
“The Friends pride themselves in arranging a wide range of events, and the motto is always fun, fun fun – we can certainly say our customers left the hall with fully bellies and happy smiles
“Beryl Griffiths has lived in Longhope all her life and is a well known flower arranger who has travelled around the UK judging many flower competitions.”
A project to improve the path and lighting outside All Saints Church was put on hold after it was discovered urgent repairs were needed to the tower.
Some £30,000 was taken from the path fund to go towards the restoration of the tower and following the successful conclusion of that project, attention has now turned back to the path.
