SOUDLEY School has joined Ruardean Woodside and Steam Mills primaries to form a new partnership.
The new governing body of The Forest Federation of Soudley, Steam Mills and Woodside Primary Schools at their first meeting at Woodside School on Monday, April 15.
A Federation allows two or more schools share a governing board while the schools remain independent, working together as equal partners.
Since September 2022, the Steam Mills and Woodside Primary Schools Federation has provided leadership and management support to Soudley Primary School after the retirement of the previous headteacher.
A successful partnership has grown over the past 18 months, in which Soudley has retained its unique identity, developed its curriculum, and giving staff the benefits of stable leadership being able to work alongside curriculum specialists from Steam Mills and Woodside.
The success of the partnership over the past 18 months is due in a large part to the similar values, aims and attitudes of the three thriving small schools.
Chair of the new Governing Board, Dave Wildin, said, “It has been great to see the partnership between the schools grow. They have been the centre of their communities for the past 140 years and are all unique and special places.
“Through working in partnership together we aim to keep each school’s unique identity and improve the learning opportunities and experiences for all the children.
“The staff are working closely together across the schools and enjoy specialising in just one subject area.
“Since September they have organised joint Federation sessions enabling the children to meet and work with their year groups from the other schools, which the children have really enjoyed.”
Executive Headteacher Mel Davis added: ‘It is a privilege to work with such committed staff and governors, as we all want the very best for the children in our community.
!We have all seen that working together as a group of schools has brought many benefits for the children, as well as stability for each school. Many thanks to all staff and governors for everything they do.’’
