There were brightly-coloured paper crowns, a whole school sing-along and a Union flag made out of cupcakes at Coalway Junior School’s Jubilee Garden Party last week.

Pupils and staff dressed up for the party in the school playground last Thursday (May 26) which was organised to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Ahead of the event, the children decorated dozens of cupcakes using red, white and blue icing, which they then put together to make a huge Union Jack.

They also made paper placemats and crowns for the party, as well as sewing sunflower seeds in honour of Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne.

Then, at lunchtime, the celebrations began, with children heading out into the playground to eat whilst wearing their decorated paper crowns.

Following lunch, the children came together for a sing-along with piano accompaniment, singing the official jubilee song ‘Rise up and Serve’ as well as ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ and ‘God Save the Queen’.

The singing was then followed the whole school, including staff, indulging a spot of country dancing.

At the end of the day, all children were presented with a special Jubilee teddy bear and treats.
