A LOCAL company is celebrating 40 years of trading in the alarm services sector.

Robin Swan-Liddell, the founder and managing director Security Alarm Services (or SAS, as it is affectionately known), left West Mercia Police Force in 1984, to start up the company, from his home in Garway.

As the years have gone on, and the company has expanded and moved into Ross-on-Wye town centre and is now situated at Five Ways.

Robin’s continued commitment, hard work and leadership has allowed him to build a company that consists of a loyal, close-knit team.

This includes John Andrews, who in February 2024, celebrated working for SAS for 25 years- quite an achievement in itself.

The business, which turns 40 on November 28, has also seen Robin’s three oldest children work at the company throughout the years, with the fourth and final offspring due to start in December.

Helen McGuigan, who has worked for the company for nine years accredits the success of the company to Robin’s kind nature and strong desire to help people keep their properties and families safe.

With the ethos of ‘not letting crime pay’, a motto which he strongly supports to this day, Robin achieved his first customer soon after starting up- this gentleman is still a customer of Security Alarm Services’, 40 years on.

Now aged 69, Robin is still out on installations and surveys and continues to be the driving force behind the company, with no signs of slowing down.

Robin is also a keen and generous supporter of several local charities and ensures their premises are protected when they otherwise may not be.

Robin and the Team at Security Alarm Services want to thank the thousands of people of Ross-on-Wye and surrounding areas for their custom and continued support of the independent local business over the last four decades.

Robin’s family, friends and colleagues also want to congratulate him on reaching such an exciting and important milestone and wish him every continued success for the future.
