LOCAL residents in the Forest of Dean are being urged to consider becoming on-call firefighters and play a crucial part in safeguarding their communities.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service is looking for dedicated individuals to join their ranks, particularly in rural areas like the Forest of Dean.

On-call firefighters make up a large part of the operational workforce at the fire service and respond to a range of emergencies, including fires, road traffic accidents, medical incidents, floods, hazardous materials, and animal rescues.

They are also involved in community education, helping to prevent accidents and fires by visiting schools and homes to promote fire safety.

Applicants must live within five minutes of an on-call fire station and be at least 18 years old. and full training would be provided.
