PERRYGROVE Railway Adventure in Coleford is gearing up to take part in the nationwide Railway 200 celebrations, marking the 200th anniversary of the world’s first passenger railway.
The celebrations kick off in 2025, commemorating the historic event in 1825 when George Stephenson’s Locomotion No.1 carried more than 400 passengers on the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
As part of this year-long celebration, Perrygrove Railway is offering visitors a chance to experience steam-powered trains every weekend throughout January.
The attraction will run one of its iconic steam engines, giving guests the opportunity to witness these majestic locomotives in action, echoing the power and history of early rail travel.
In addition to the steam train experience, Perrygrove Railway is running a series of special offers for local residents and key community groups.
Free entry will be available on select weekends in January for Blue Light cardholders, Defence Privilege cardholders, and school employees. Visitors can simply show their valid cards at the entrance to enjoy the offer, with no need for advance booking.
The railway is also offering a variety of activities suitable for families. Guests can enjoy train rides along a 15-inch gauge railway through the scenic woodland and farmland surrounding Perrygrove.
Guests can stop by the café, where they can enjoy hot drinks and snacks by a roaring log burner. The shop offers a selection of railway-themed gifts and souvenirs, perfect for those looking to take a piece of the experience home.
Perrygrove Railway is open every Tuesday in January from 10 AM to 3 PM, with extended hours on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 AM to 4 PM.
The celebration of the railway’s 200 anniversary adds a unique twist to this local attraction, bringing national significance to this historic moment in rail transport.
