NEWENT Rugby Club has reacted angrily to suggestions that lives could be at risk due to unauthorised electrical work at The Recreation Ground.
As reported in last week's Forester, Newent Rugby was given permission to install a temporary cabin to provide shelter for parents of the youth team while they train in cold and wet weather. However the town council says work has been done without authorisation or the correct accreditation.
Rugby Club chairman Dennis Hamlen refuted the claims and said: "It is part of their general negativity towards Newent RFC.
"The metal trunking which they state was insecurely fixed was deliberately so. Electric cable did run through it but was not live, the supply was switched off from inside the changing rooms."
