Ruspidge Memorial Hall, a cherished landmark at the heart of the local community, has been granted a new lease on life following a much-needed roof refurbishment, thanks to a £46,000 grant from the Biffa Award, part of the Landfill Communities Fund.

This funding, complemented by contributions from the National Lottery Community Fund, the Bernard Sunley Foundation, the Garfield Weston Foundation, and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, ensures that the hall’s future remains secure for years to come.

With the building's 100-year-old roof showing signs of deterioration and frequent slate failures, regular repairs were necessary to prevent water damage.

The new roof covering provides a vital solution, allowing the hall to continue serving as a safe, accessible space for local residents.

Ruspidge Memorial Hall is an important community hub, featuring two versatile halls that host a range of events and activities for all ages.

The completion of the roof refurbishment marks a significant milestone in the hall’s history, ensuring that it will continue to play a vital role in the community for generations to come.

Ruspidge Memorial Hall secretary, Nicky Packer, expressed her gratitude for the generous support: “We are very lucky to have received funding from the Biffa Award and the other wonderful charities. The outside of the hall is now looking stunning, with a new roof and the front of the building smartened up.”

Rachel Maidment, Biffa Award grants manager, highlighted the importance of preserving such community spaces: “Ruspidge Memorial Hall is crucial to preserving the vibrant heart of local life.

By providing a £46,000 grant for the much-needed roof renovation, we are ensuring that this historic hall can continue to serve its community for generations to come. It’s wonderful to see how the combined efforts of national funding and local support have secured a brighter future for this cherished building.”
