MUSICIANS from across the Forest are joining forces to hold a special benefit concert in aid of those affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

One of the youngest choirs in the district, Forest Singers, are joining up with one of the oldest in Drybrook & District Male Voice Choir to host a “wonderful” evening of music at Lydney Town Hall this month.

The choirs will be joined by Cinderford Town Band and the 2022 Forest Singers Bursary winners to complete a “great evenings’ entertainment” on Friday, September 30.

Proceeds for the benefit concert will be split between the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and the St Briavels Ukraine Community Hub, which is providing valuable welcome and support to the refugees who have arrived in the Forest of Dean.

The choirs will offer a varied mix of the traditional and modern “with a little humour mixed in!”, while Cinderford Band will perform a “brilliant” selection of music.

The Forest Singers Bursary winners are violinist Talia Racine and singers Frankie D’Amato and Lola Davies.

The brass band will end the concert with a rendition of the Ukrainian National Anthem.

Organisers say they know that “so much has been done already in support of Ukraine but more is needed, especially as the conflict continues beyond anybody’s expectations.”

Tickets are available online from www.forestsingers.co.uk, at Lydney Town Hall or by emailing [email protected].

They are also available at the door on the evening, but it is advisable to book in advance.

The concert starts at 7.30pm on the night.
