Fewer than 80 of the 200-plus British venues The Beatles played between 1957 and 1966 remain today as so many of the historic dance halls, theatres and cinemas that shook to the original ‘Merseybeat’ have been demolished.

Adam Sadler, trustee and vice chairman of the Lydney Town Hall committee said he was far too young to see the Beatles playing the venue on October 31 in 1962, but having an older brother who bought every single and album as it was released, he knew the band intimately.

He said: “A good handful of those that came to Lydney Town Hall in October 1962 were back in the audience last week. We had an audience of around 250 people, many of them dressed up in period costume."
