LYDNEY’S weekly ‘Parkrun’ jogging club attracted a bumper turn out for its first anniversary.

Parkrun is a free 5 km timed run every Saturday morning at 9am.

Starting and finishing at the garage block at Lydney Boating Lake, its route takes in the picturesque scenery of Lydney Lake, the canal and a well-used newly created path through the woods.

David Price, Event Director said: “it’s great to see so many people coming each week, and enjoying this free event, seeing the smiles as they come over the finish line, hearing their stories and celebrating their personal bests.

“Over the year, we have seen 1,255 different runners run 4,907 runs taking an average of 28min 26sec to complete the course.

“Running a total of 96 days, 21 hours 36 minutes and 9 seconds, covering a whopping 24,535km, they have smashed 1,218 personal best records.

“We have welcomed visitors from all over the world, including New Zealand and South Africa and even one lady taking a bus and two trains to get to us from Bath.

To take part in, all you need to do is register at parkrun.org.uk and bring your personal barcode with you.
