THE sound of car engines was replaced by music and people chatting as a street fair was held in Newent.
The Love Newent Fayre on Saturday (September 4) was organised by Newent Town Council to bring people together and to show off the town at its best.
It was made possible by the Welcome Back Fund, a government initiative to enable market towns to showcase local businesses.
There were attractions across the town from the central shopping area to the lake with a wide variety of attractions - and no cars.
Local businesses were also heavily involved in bringing the day of activities which ran from 10.30am to 3pm.
A number of community organisations such as Newent in Bloom, the Newent Youth Action Forum and Newent and District Men’s Shed had stalls where people could find out more about their work.
At the Market House a number of local bands and singers entertained shoppers.
The street entertainment included a "living statue" in the form of a medieval knight.
The large number of classic cars on display also impressed visitors and there were free magic shows at the lake.
