NEWENT Town Council is buying the car park behind the town's library, in order to 'influence the future development of the town'.

The site has been suggested as a possible location for new town council offices, but it is governed by a covenant that restricts its usage to that of a car park.

Leading councillor Len Lawton doesn't agree with the purchase and believes the town's residents should have more of a say when it comes to town council affairs.
