THE GLOUCESTERSHIRE Historic Churches Trust has announced its search for a new chairperson as Colin Senior prepares to step down in June 2025 after five years of service.

The trust is instrumental in preserving some of the county’s most historic churches, including key landmarks in the Forest of Dean such as St Michael and All Angels in Mitcheldean and St Michael in Abenhall.

These buildings, which are deeply valued by local communities, represent not just places of worship but vital connections to the region’s architectural and cultural history.

The Forest of Dean’s historic churches are an integral part of the trust’s mission. St Michael and All Angels in Mitcheldean, with its striking architecture and prominent location in the town, has long been a symbol of local heritage.

Meanwhile, the smaller but equally significant St Michael in Abenhall, known for its unique medieval features, highlights the rich tapestry of history the trust seeks to protect.

Under Mr Senior’s leadership, the trust has continued its work to support the restoration and upkeep of these historic places of worship.

His departure marks the beginning of a new chapter for the trust, with the incoming chairperson set to play a vital role in shaping the charity’s future.

The trust aims to find a candidate who can continue its legacy of success and navigate the challenges ahead.

A spokesperson for the trust commented: “We’re grateful for Colin’s exceptional contribution over the past five years. His leadership has been invaluable in ensuring the preservation of these important buildings, including several in the Forest of Dean. The next chairperson will have the opportunity to build on this strong foundation.”

The trust has long been a lifeline for these cherished landmarks, and the next chairperson will have a unique chance to influence the future of historic preservation across the county.
