RILEY Meredith-Morgan, a six-year-old pupil at Lydney’s Severnbanks School, had his front teeth smashed by a hammer thrown by a fellow pupil, claims his mother.
The furious mother says the other pupil escaped serious punishment and also claims teaching staff at the school, were guilty of serious negligence by allowing children unsupervised access to tools.
However, the school which has an excellent Ofsted track record, says the proper procedures were followed and that external health and safety consultants are satisfied the incident was an accident.
Riley’s mother Susan Morgan, said: “My child was in school when I got a call from the receptionist saying he had been in an accident.
“I thought he had just wet himself but she then said he’s been hit in the mouth with an hammer and I instantly started to panic.
“They requested I came and took him to be checked over as his mouth was clotting."
Rod Johnson, chairman of governors for the school said that independent external health and safety consultants have carried out an investigation into the incident including risk assessments and interviews with all parties involved.
