A NEW uniform designed to enhance both functionality and public recognition is soon to be worn by Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service personnel.
The new navy-blue attire, featuring a full-colour fire service and a Gloucestershire County Council badge, marks a significant change from the previous black uniforms.
This update, driven by staff feedback, aims to improve quality and wearability. The uniforms, provided by a supplier known for rigorous quality testing, are designed to endure the demands of firefighting while offering greater comfort.
Features include elasticated waistbands, breathable fabrics for menopause comfort, and options for maternity wear. The range also includes vegan alternatives for shoes and belts, as well as religious head coverings, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity.
Navy-blue was selected for its professional look and increased visibility, which is expected to enhance community engagement and improve interactions with other services across the region.
Cllr Dave Norman, responsible for the fire service, praised the new uniforms, adding: “I am delighted with our new uniform. It will make it easier for the public to identify staff, benefiting both the community and our personnel with improved quality and comfort.”
Old uniforms will be disposed of responsibly, with surplus items repurposed or donated. Mark Preece, chief fire officer, highlighted the benefits, emphasising the uniform’s role in fostering a positive workplace culture and providing top-notch community safety.
