LYDNEY Swimming Club celebrated its 10th birthday on Sunday with a visit from two Olympic hopefuls.
Great Britain swimmers Michael Jamieson and Jessica Dickons came to the Whitecross Leisure Centre in Lydney to provide a master class in the pool for the club's young swimmers, aged eight to 18. Both Michael and Jessica are in the GB squad for the 2012 Olympics. Both also competed in the recent Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Michael won a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke, with Jessica competing in the butterfly. She previously won a bronze medal at the 2008 World Championships in the 200m butterfly.
Both provided valuable tips on technique in the water, as well as giving important pointers on food and nutrition, from club level to Olympic standard. Lydney's swimmers were thrilled to be learning from the best, collecting autographs and eagerly putting their new-found skills into practice. The event was funded by a donation from Enzen Global Ltd, with a box of organic fruit provided by Four Seasons Food Ltd.
