FAMILIES in the Forest of Dean can look forward to a festive season filled with free activities and nutritious meals, thanks to the return of the Holiday Activities and Food programme.
Gloucestershire County Council’s initiative, supported locally by the Forest Voluntary Action Forum, aims to keep children happy, healthy, and engaged over the winter holidays.
The programme is open to families eligible for benefits-related free school meals, with a wide range of options on offer from December 21 to January 5.
Activities will include arts and crafts, outdoor sports, drama workshops, music sessions, and even popular attractions like ice skating and pantomimes. Families can view activities on the initiative’s website from midday on Monday, November 18, with booking officially opening at midday on Monday, December 2.
Cllr Paul McLain, cabinet member for children at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Families have told us how much they value the Holiday Activities and Food programme, so I’m delighted it’s back to provide free, fun activities for children and young people. It’sa great way to stay active, learn new things, and make wonderful memories.”
Families are encouraged to register for the Children’s Activities Booking System to be ready for booking and to follow Forest Voluntary Action Forum on social media for updates.
Community Connectors are available, including a specialist SEND Community Connector for children with additional needs.
