THE volunteers who spend hours maintaining Ruardean ’s Pan Tod beauty spot have ‘given up’ in the face of yet another attack by wild boar.
Only days after repairing the last bout of boar damaged beauty spot, the Friends of Pan Tod team have been devastated to find the wild pigs have struck again.
But this time the volunteers have given up any thought of repairs until adequate protection is put in place such as cattle grids and fencing.
They are now gathering a petition to present to the Forestry Commission.
Dennis Phillips, who leads the Friends of Pan Tod team, said: “We replaced the turf dug up by the boar over the last week.
“The Forestry Commission Green Team under Kate Wollen came to Pan Tod to cut grass and rake it up in preparation for turning the rough areas into wild flower meadows.
“Unfortunately, after the work was completed, the boar paid us another visit and now Pan Tod is in a worst state than before.
“It is very disheartening for the Friends of Pan Tod so we intend to have a vote to suspend all activities up there until the area is made secure from the boar."
Maurice Bent, spokesman for the Friends of Pan Tod, said: “It is absolutely heartbreaking. We have had boar damage and vandalism in the past but this is the worst yet.”
In 2011 the Friends of Pan Tod was formed to care for the area from the Flag Pole, the highest point in the Dean at 951ft, to Pan Tod as an amenity area for visitors and the community.”
