A 38-YEAR-old man has died from his injuries sustained in a horrific industrial accident in Sling.
Martin Simmons was working at a unit located on the New Dunn Business Park when the accident involving a conveyor belt, occurred on February 20.
Martin’s work colleagues immediately administered CPR and kept him alive until the critical care team from Great Western Air Ambulance Charity arrived and resuscitate him before flying him to a Bristol trauma hospital.
Martin, affectionately known as Mugsy, was soon surrounded in hospital by his family including his partner Tina who explained on Facebook: “Never in my life have I felt pain like this."
The couple went on to have a wedding blessing in the hospital surrounded by family and friends.
But Martin, who had already survived a battle with cancer, died from his injuries on March 6.
Among the dozens of tributes Pete Harper said: "I love you my mate more than words could ever say while Jackie Ruck said: "Martin is such a friendly lovely man and has helped me through difficult times.
A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said: "The Gloucestershire force and the Health and Safety Executive are currently carrying out an investigation into the circumstances of the incident."
The Gloucestershire Coroner is due to open an inquest into Mr Simmons’ death next week.
• Martin’s funeral service will take place on Friday, March 29 at Church Of The Holy Jesus, Lydbrook, followed by committal at The Forest of Dean Crematorium.
