A CRUCIAL training exercise aimed at enhancing readiness for real-life emergencies took place recently at a block of flats.
This drill involved firefighters from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, simulating a flat fire scenario.
Bromford Housing Association, which has a number of estates in the Forest of Dean, made this exercise possible, by providing the block of flats for the drill.
The exercise featured a mock fire on the second floor of the three-storey building, providing a realistic setting for the teams to practice their emergency response. The training utilised multiple fire engines, breathing apparatus, hoses, and hydrants to ensure an immersive experience.
The primary goal was to test and refine joint rescue and breathing apparatus procedures, enhancing preparedness for actual emergencies.
Chief fire officer Mark Preece emphasised the importance of such drills and said: “Although we hope never to face such incidents, exercises like this are crucial for ensuring we are fully prepared.
“This training has been instrumental in testing our skills and collaborating effectively with our partners from Dorset and Wiltshire.”
Cllr Dave Norman, cabinet member for the fire and rescue service, commended the dedication of the crews and added: “Our teams undergo rigorous training to deliver top-notch emergency response. This exercise exemplifies their commitment and hard work in serving our community.”
