The renowned Edinburgh-based jazz duo, Ian Millar (saxophone) and Dominic Spencer (piano), are set to grace Gorsley Village Hall with their melodic tunes and amusing touring tales on Saturday, 23rd September at 8 pm. The concert, priced at £12 per ticket, aims to raise funds for the village hall, with free entry for accompanied under-16s.
Having travelled extensively across the UK with their "Jazz in the Village" series, Millar and Spencer have garnered significant acclaim for their accessible jazz renditions and engaging storytelling. Their unique approach to setting the ambiance, with cabaret-style seating, low lighting, and tea light candles, promises an intimate musical experience.
The duo's commitment to bringing jazz to rural communities is unparalleled in the UK Jazz community. Their concerts, often set in an intimate atmosphere created using programmable lighting and table lights, have been well-received throughout the country. Their tales of adventures in their Tour Bus, a repurposed Yorkshire Ambulance, add a touch of humour and charm to their performances.
Dominic Spencer expressed their excitement, stating, "We are delighted to be performing all over the UK in a variety of venues with many sell-out concerts and record sales in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival." He further added, "Throughout lockdown, we called ourselves the Socially Distanced Duo. Now, we're thrilled to be reconnecting with our audience."
Three Weeks Magazine has lauded their performances, describing it as "Very cool music played in a magical atmosphere," appealing to both jazz novices and enthusiasts.
Tickets for the Gorsley Village Hall concert can be procured from the Gorsley Community Shop or by calling 07969 030 809. A licensed bar will be available for attendees.
