A POTTER Trail, linking places that were prominent in the life of playwright Dennis Potter is to be created around the Christchurch and Berry Hill areas of Coleford.
The trail is the brainchild of West Dean Parish Council, which plans to take over the Forest Theatre at the Five Acres college campus and rename it the Potter Theatre.
The trail would then be linked to the theatre and marketed as a tourist attraction.
“We thought it would be a good idea to link that with a tourist trail around places that were important to Potter in his youth and childhood,” said Councillor Tim Gwilliam.
“The trail would include places like the house where he was born and the house across the road where his family moved when they needed more room.
“Then there’s his local pub The Globe where he spent many happy hours, the band hut where he played and which features in his ‘The Land Between Two Rivers’ documentary.
Forest historian John Belcher, who lives in Potter’s childhood home at Joyford Hill, said: “There are so many places associated with Potter and which also feature in his work that, for anyone interested in his work and life it will be fascinating journey.”
