IT IS not the role of the police to go and round up horses, according to Gloucestershire's police and crime commissioner. Frustrated residents asked Martin Surl why no action had been taken to deal with lose galloping horses and wandering farm animals which frequently escape onto the public highway near Clifford's Mesne. Mr Surl, answering questions at this week's Newent Town Council meeting responded and said: "There is a particular issue in Clifford's Mesne. That's an issue the police can support, but I don't think the police should necessarily lead on that one. It's a community issue."
