MISDIRECTED calls to a Longhope telephone number following the sinking of a lifeboat in a village with the same name in the Orkney Islands 50 years ago has led to the two villages remaining in close contact.

The Longhope lifeboat disaster occurred on March 17, 1969 with the loss of seven members of the crew.
