BLAKENEY will come alive with artistic energy as it hosts the much-anticipated annual duck race combined with the debut of the village’s ArtsFest.
The ArtsFest, which is being staged on Saturday. August 24, aims to foster creativity and community spirit, will feature a diverse array of performances and interactive workshops. The festivities will begin at 11.15am with a selection of workshops at All Saints Church.
At 12.15pm, the community will gather for a vibrant parade, led by Forest Thump and Djabot, with Wild Oats Morris, local school children, and participating volunteers.
The parade will proceed from the church to Blakeney Recreation Ground, where the event will continue with various performances and activities starting at 1pm.
In addition, Canopy will host a range of drop-in art workshops, including water colour sessions with Emma O’Brennan from Wilful Ink, clay workshops with Dorota Rapacz, and creative duck-making with Chris Waygood.
Families can also participate in creative walks in nature, led by Krysa, offering a unique experience for both parents and children.
The Blakeney Duck Race, the highlight of the day, will feature races at 1.30pm and 4.40pm, along with traditional activities including an owl display, face painting, cake stalls and tombola. Music will be provided by Cozmic Dave.
Sara Rickard, director of Canopy, expressed enthusiasm about the event and said: “We are delighted to bring the ArtsFest to Blakeney and enhance the duck race with a creative dimension. Our goal is to celebrate and support local talent while providing a fun, inclusive experience for everyone in the community.”
